Denver, CO, December 19, 2017 — cliexa, Inc., developer of a mobile platform for chronic disease management, announces today a collaboration with Preventative Technology Solutions, Inc., (PTSI), provider of medical assessment applications and mHealth prevention services for adolescents and young adults. cliexa has licensed PTSI assessment technology to launch cliexa-Options, a suite of behavioral health apps for primary care and family medicine physicians which will help determine risk level for sexual activity, substance use and other issues. UC Health Longmont is piloting the sexual risk assessment app in its clinic and the service is reimbursable by major insurance providers.

Half of the nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) reported each year were among young people between the ages of 15 to 24 and nearly 230,000 babies were born to teen girls aged 15–19 years in 2015, according to the CDC. Undiagnosed STDs cause infertility in 20,000 women annually. Facilitating conversations between patients and their physicians is a significant step necessary to reduce costs and chronic conditions often associated with adolescent behavioral health.

cliexa-Options delivers precise, evidence-based assessments that patients complete on a tablet in the physician’s office before their appointment, creating a structured report using proprietary algorithms for each risk area. The reproductive health app supports early identification of patients at highest risk of acquiring an STD or experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The mental health and substance use apps identify mental health screening, substance use and resiliency in patients.

cliexa is adding cliexa-Options to its award-winning, digital health platform specializing in patient-reported outcomes and value-based care. The company has partnered with Kaiser Permanente Colorado Rheumatology Clinic at Rock Creek and Colorado Permanente Medical Group since 2016, piloting cliexa-RA for rheumatoid arthritis disease management.

“We are excited to partner with PTSI in providing solutions for adolescent behavioral health,” said Mehmet Kazgan, founder and CEO of cliexa. “Our vision is to build an ecosystem for patients and care teams using the most effective and clinically-validated assessment models and patient-reported outcomes. Combining PTSI’s expertise with cliexa’s digital platform creates state-of-the art products in this space.”

“This is an exciting collaboration, and we anticipate being able to serve our medical providers with better digital health technology services in underutilized areas of primary care,” said Scott Fowle, CEO of Preventative Technology Solutions.

STDs are a persistent enemy
STDs are a persistent enemy

…Jonathan Mermin, director of the CDC’s National Center for STDs and TB Prevention, said in a news release last month. He added that the epidemic is, “…growing in number, and outpacing our ability to respond.” Over 50% of new cases of STDs occur in young people ages 15 – 24, Chlamydia cases the most prominent. Front-line defense–primary care clinics and overloaded physicians. They may feel they do not get honest answers or they don’t have time to ask difficult questions. Young people are not comfortable with face-to-face discussions about reproductive health.

Some physicians don’t know how to broach this sensitive conversation, “This is an awkward topic, especially for men and they avoid having these conversations. cliexa-OPTIONS gives male physicians and clinicians a tool to get through the awkwardness …This epidemic impacts females more because they are left holding the bag.”   So is it a lost cause? No, digital health offers promising solutions.

Why is Primary Care so Important?

Leveraging long-standing relationships with pediatricians and family physicians–an underutilized strategy on the front lines of this devastating battle, helps youth stay healthy. Young people respond to authentic conversations with people they know and trust.  Primary care screenings identify most new cases of Chlamydia. That’s where the cliexa-OPTIONS App, an innovative digital health technology,  plays a crucial role.

cliexa-OPTIONS reduces the cognitive load for clinicians by creating a structured report using our unique scoring algorithm. Our measures are more sensitive to cultural trends young people experience. Three levels of high risk allow tailored, pinpointed conversations that count. Our recent clinical pilot confirmed the benefits of the OPTIONS App.

Risk assessment quality was average before piloting the cliexa-OPTIONS App. After implementing cliexa-OPTIONS, physicians rated the quality of their sexual risk assessment as excellent. The cliexa-OPTIONS App improves reproductive health counseling by “making it easier for my patients to discuss what is REALLY going on with them.” Physicians said the App saves them time and all participants reported that cliexa-OPTIONS supports early identification of youth at highest risk of acquiring an STD.

Positive ROI increases revenue improves quality, tracks efforts, and supports better outcomes for young people. What’s not to love about the cliexa-OPTIONS App?? To find out how to get started, contact the cliexa team.

On October 19th, cliexa will pitch to improve the healthcare industry for a chance to pilot cliexa Platform with Colorado’s leading healthcare systems, payors, and provider networks.

Early this summer, healthcare innovators from around the country submitted applications to compete in the Prime Health Challenge, the country’s largest digital health pitch competition of its kind.  Over the past 3-months, experts from across the industry have evaluated the proposals through the Prime Health Qualify process and narrowed the list down to six finalists who will compete in the live, shark-tank style event at the Exdo Event Center in RiNo Denver.  Thanks to funding from The Colorado Health Foundation, winners will be rewarded with a share of the $150,000 prize and the opportunity to prove their solutions in real-life clinical settings.
